[It was the sound of birds that woke Asami up, not an unusual sound, but not one she heard terribly often in her room at the Sato Mansion either. On the Air Temple Island though they were probably quite normal, she thought to herself as she shifted a bit, pressing her fingers into the grass under her hands and-

[What?]

[Her eyes opened with a start and she sat up, frowning at...the forest around her. Trees, and in the distance the sound of what might be people... The birds had all gone still at the sudden motion, but as she sat there, they began to chirp and tweet again, and the sound seemed to draw Asami from her shock. Where was she? How did she get here and what was she wearing?!]

[She plucked at the front of the white cotton sundress...not exactly terrible but not her style in any way, and a quick search of the area around her revealed her own clothing sitting in a pile on the ground nearby. Someone had undressed her, dressed her in this dress, dumped her in the woods of what looked like the earth kingdom and then...left her clothing for her? Because that made sense.]

[A quick search of the area revealed no one anywhere near the clearing she had woken up in, and once she was (relatively) satisfied, she scooped up her clothing and ducked behind a tree to change. But her attempt to remove the sundress had the fabric tugging on the strange, violet wings she hadn't noticed before, eliciting a startled noise of pain and surprise followed by a few minutes of examining them with her hands and what little she could see by turning her head. She had wings. What the hell was going on!?]

[A few minutes of changing and adjustment had her in her usual pants and the undershirt she typically wore beneath her coat, the back low enough that they were pressing lightly against the bottom of her wings but not enough to cause anything too uncomfortable. Except every time the fabric shifted the wings fluttered, which tickled and ached and that was...strange enough. She'd have to leave her jacket off until she found someone who could get whatever had happened to her reversed...]

[So she hung her jacket and the sundress over her arm as she started off towards the sounds she had heard.]

[It's a few hours later when she appears on the notebooks, sitting on the edge of a fountain in the town, the book resting on her knee. Someone she met has shown her the basics of it, and while she gets it, she's not really certain she actually understands it. So there is a view of her face leaning over, peering down at the page, her black hair hanging down and framing her for a moment before she...turns the notebook over suddenly, giving anyone watching a view of her pants-clad knee.]

...Is it working? Doesn't make any sense, it's just paper but...

[Her voice is muffled as she speaks to herself, and after a second the notebook flips back over and she frowns at the page again.]

I guess it is. Uhm. Hello! [She waves at the page for a moment then frowns, using her hand to brush her hair behind her ear before she forces it into her lap.] Assuming anyone can actually see this, I'm Asami Sato. I just...woke up in the woods, which apparently isn't as strange as I thought it was?

Right. Uh. Anyway.

People said I should say hello, so. That's what I'm doing. I feel kind of silly talking to a book but I suppose if it's doing what they said it would, I shouldn't...

Not that I can tell, of course.

[She picks up the book from her lap and gives it a little shake, which has her image bouncing around before she holds it a bit further away from her body, her head tilting to the side.]

...How do these work, anyway?

[ooc: Asami will be wandering around town looking at everything and trying to find a phone, so she can be most anywhere for runnings-into!]

[Another few seconds of processing.]

But...how did we get here? How do I have wings? No, forget how. Why am I here with wings forced onto my back?

[Said wings flutter with her obvious irritation.]

It's... it's part of being here. The wings can't fly, but they kind of keep us alive here and they translate all the different languages. We don't know a lot more beyond that about the why.

Because wings translating language makes perfect sense. [Asami huffs softly in frustration before she gathers herself up again. Okay. She could deal with this. She could.]

So you're the last avatar, and we're in another world, and we're not dead, right?

[Because dead avatar talking to you was probably a bad sign of your current health.]

[He frowns; it's been a while since anyone came from the future, so he's almost forgotten to expect that reaction. The reminder of his death.]

N-no. We're alive, here. It's not the Spirit World. Just... you know, a lot of things that don't make sense.

[Oh...asking that had been kind of awful, hadn't it. She does catch herself because of his frown.]

...Sorry. I'm just, not really understanding this, I think.

[A pause. Okay, talk about something else.]

So how do you know me, anyway?

Well... Hold onto that part about things not making sense. Because one thing about this place is that people come here and are sent back home... at random. There's no way to predict it.

When people come back, sometimes they remember what it was like the first time they were here. Or they... forget everything, and it's like they're here for the first time. Like... like you.

[And have more staring, Aang. Because the rest of it was nonsense, but at least it was nonsense about other people.]

I have never...[She draws in a breath. If he was right, she wouldn't know if she had been here, right?]

...When? Wouldn't people at home notice if I'd vanished twice?

No one noticed any of us being gone, either. This place is outside our world and outside our time, too - so while we're here... it's like time is frozen back home. And when we go back, it'll be like nothing happened at all. [He tries to explain quietly and slowly.]

[More staring, and then she sighs.]

This is a lot to take in.

It... it is. I think I can still feel the headaches from when I first wound up here. [He says with a meek smile.]

...How long have you been here?

It's... [He averts his eyes. As hard as he knows it is to face, he can't lie to her. She'll hae to face it anyway.] It's been just a little more than a year.

[You sure are good at leaving her in a stunned silence, Aang.]

A year. And there's no way back? I can't...I can't be here for a year. My father is running around ruining everything and I told Korra I would help her with the Equalists, I have responsibilities!

[He had arrived from a hectic time himself - when problems at Yu Dao were just beginning to escalate. But perhaps because of how his personality was different and how Sokka and Katara had been the first to find him here, he was able to separate himself from his problems at home - and focus on his friends here.].

I'm sorry. But... There's no way of telling how long you'll be here. There's just also no way to get back willingly that we know of. Everything at home... [My father is running around ruining everthing] it'll be the same when you return.

Nothing about this makes sense. [She huffs, and then seems to gather herself up.]

Okay. I can't just stand here being annoyed. What now?

Well... I can show you to the village. It's not so far. [He looks at the apples still in his hands and then up at some of the dark clouds.] We should get moving, anyway. Those clouds are looking cranky.

[She glances up as well and then laughs softly.]

I suppose it would be perfect if it rained on me after all this.

[He gives a soft chuckle in return as he starts to guide her in the right direction.]

It won't be too bad. You're walking with a Waterbender now, after all. I can be a really good umbrella if I have to!

But you're...

[She just shakes her head as she moves to follow him.]

Sorry. It's just strange to think of anyone besides Korra who can do that.

I understand. You're used to your Avatar. And it probably helps that she's Water Tribe, while I'm an air nomad! But she's really great at all the forms she knows! [She just... doesn't know airbending, at all.]

Yes but during the tournament she was just water bending. I suppose it's just what I'm used to thinking of as her 'thing.'

[She hesitates.]

So two Avatars. How does that work?

I don't know. It just does! Even though we share the same soul, I guess because we're from different times, we're just both able to be here at the same time! And it was even weirder when Avatar Roku was here.

If they can give us wings I suppose they can manage that too. [She's not going to even try and touch three avatars at once.]

I suppose I'm asking a lot of questions you already get asked...sorry.

You don't have to apologize. You can't help it, after all! You're the new person here, so helping you know things is the priority. [He keeps a friendly tone as he glances towards her reassuringly. It really doesn't bother him that much.] So don't worry about asking me questions I might've heard before. Because they could be important things for New Feathers to know!

[She can't help but look amused at that.]

New feathers? Is that really what we're called?
